As a result of the Versailles Treaty, early on Germany became a “postcolonial state in a colonial world.” However until today, the country’s colonial history has not been adequately reflected in the public realm. Colonial Omissions is a two-day event which will interrogate the complex legacy of German colonialism. Partly neglected, partly considered a minor history, "colonial phantasies" have however been constitutive for modern German history. What does the German colonial past mean for Germany today and what marks has it left? How can this history be addressed? Through artistic contributions and a series of talks Colonial Omissions aims to offer a platform where these and further questions can be posed and discussed.
